6MinsToBass
Hey everyone I thought Id share with you details of my custom modifyed signature Pbass project. So - Ive basically taken a standard P and made it very personal to me. I started with a black MIM Pbass with a maple neck, and mirrored scratch. 1st off I changed the scratchplate to a 3ply black one which looks fantastic. Next I changed out the stock pups for SD SPB3's which sound really warm and and have a great sound. I then modifyed the controls by setting the levels on the tone and volume knobs to my preset, and then hid them in the control cavity, under the scratchplate. You may think this sounds daft, but honestly I always use the same bass settings and then adjust and shape the sound using my amp EQ. So I thought well if this is going to be "my custom bass" I want it like that! So its literally a "plug in and play" and, without the control knobs it looks more punk! I have filled in the holes on the scratchplate aswell, so its just one smooth piece. The 3ply Pbass outline really jumps out at you now - it looks waaay cool, even if I do say so myself! Next up was the bridge upgrade from stock to a Babicz FCH bridge in chrome. These bridges are really amazing, they do make the sustain better, and setting the action is really really precise...which again is really cool. I then changed the nut to a black Tusq self lubricating nut which again adds to the overall look of the bass, and adds to the tone slightly. Next to go were the stock tuners, and to be replaced with offical Fender US high mass deluxe tuners. I have a couple of deluxe basses that use these tuners and I love them, absolutely love the accuracy of the tuning ratio and the stability it adds to the tuning aswell. I then set about adding block inlays to The maple neck, like a Jazz...again it just makes the bass look super cool. I then modifyed the position of the jack input from the front of the scratchplate, to the underneath lower bout - again like some Jazz basses have. I think it looks better. I have changed all the scratchplate plate screws from silver to black, the new jack plate is black, Ive added new straplock pegs - guess what color....? Yeah, black! Oh and I've added my signature as a decal to the headstock - well why not? Its is MY signature bass... So that's as far as I have got with it...the next step will be to add a J pickup in the bridge position to give me the P/J combined sound I love! And then that is it...she'll be finished, and I'll have fully customized passive Fender P/J bass! I bought the bass secondhand dirt cheap, and with the mods I've done I now think its equal to, if not better in some areas than a US bass, and i have it to my exact specifications - and it hasn't cost me anywhere near as much as a new US bass. I'll add some pics in the next week or so!! Thanks for reading, and let me know your thoughts! Cheers!

Lozz196
Looking forward to those pics. And love the idea of plug & play mode, rather like Nikki Sixxs bass, it has an on/off switch.
6MinsToBass
Yeah the plug in and play aspect of it works really well actually. It looks uncluttered, and really cool.
Myke
I do exactly the opposite. I change all the EQ on my bass and leave my amp EQ flat Sounds very nice though!
