Grangur
Hi all, I've become the "proud" owner of 2 spare necks. One is maple fretted and another is rosewood de-fretted, but the trus-rod is shot to pieces. What I'd really like is a fully working (of course) ebony or rosewood fretless neck. I know where I can buy a fingerboard blank. Does anyone know how to remove am existing fingerboard? I'm thinking of doing the replacement on the rosewood one and replace the trus... if it would be economically viable... which I half suspect it's not. Thanks
DorsetBlue
There is a good site showing how so replace a trussrod without removing the fingerboard, which might be possible on your neck.....can't find the one I am thinking of (it's a luther's site) but these show similar methods: http://www.jacksinstrumentservices.com/musicmaster-trussrod.html http://guitargarage.blogspot.co.uk/2008/01/one-way-to-repair-fender-trussrod-63.html I think there are special heating blankets to remove fingerboards but I don't suspect it is very easy to heat such a large area effectively but I suspect more knowledgeable people will say otherwise. Beer of the Bass
I haven't done this, but if you've no intention of reusing the rosewood fingerboard, I'd be tempted to simply plane it off.
Myke
You can steam them off with an iron.
