Bilbo Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Interesting that I was the only one that focussed on the Escher at the expense of Reynolds rather than the other way around. Probably says something about my headspace. Quote
Grangur Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 WOW! Me and the long suffering, good Mrs G have just listened to all of the above. It's not easy this month. I think we've got it down to 3 so far, but this is going to take a few listens to nail a leader amongst our resident winners. Well done guys. I take my hat off to you all. Quote

Mykesbass Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Toughest one yet - well done everyone. Quote
Bilbo Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 368 views and only 12 votes? Seems odd to me. PS Quote
AL-the-Bassman Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 i agree, we need to try and make this Thread more popular, and sociable. after all, its just a bit of fun, and gets you thinking outside of your normal boxes which i like . Quote
Roland Rock Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I've just voted. This month has seen much more of a common theme (with one notable exception) and all are high quality, with their own quirks. Well done everyone Quote
We do our best Trouble is, many people just aren't interested in other people's music. Which seems counter-intuitive for a community of musicians, but that's how it is. It's something I've encountered on every music community I've ever belonged to, so it's certainly not unique to Basschat. In fact Basschat has one of the most active community of musicians that I've come across, which is why I decided to linger here. I think a lot of people just know what they like, like what they know, and aren't interested in much beyond that. They come here for a chinwag rather than anything musical per se. Which is of course very welcome and in many ways the backbone of the community. I think the expression is "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink". Quote
PauBass Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I've just listened and submitted my vote...well done to you all! I've been thinking of giving the compositions a go but the level has been set so high Quote

Cut yourself some slack and have a go..! The level..? Complimentary, and appreciated, but you're quite certainly capable of doing what I, and some others here can do. We are not all high-flyers (for my part, I'm not even a bassist..!). Try it, it's great fun, and excellent motivation for learning all sorts of stuff. Up to you, of course, but don't feel intimidated. Give it a shot..? Edited January 26, 2014 by Dad3353 Quote

Stingray5 Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Great stuff, folks. My first time visiting this thread and taking part (well, at least voting). If I can tear myself away from the Photo Competition for long enough, I hope to submit something here at some point, too. Quote
oggiesnr Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) As a piece of music my favorite was Bilbo's which interpreted one of the pictures beautifully (and I want to hear live by a string quartet). The issue was that I felt it ignored the other picture and for that reason my vote went elsewhere. Sorry By the same token I felt a couple of the others were to Burt centric which left a choice of two (and I'm not telling) Overall, even with only five entries I thought it was a good quality month. Steve PS Had one of Bilbo's violins been a banjo it would have fitted perfectly Edited January 27, 2014 by oggiesnr Quote
