WOW!
Me and the long suffering, good Mrs G have just listened to all of the above. It's not easy this month. I think we've got it down to 3 so far, but this is going to take a few listens to nail a leader amongst our resident winners.

Well done guys. I take my hat off to you all.

Interesting that I was the only one that focussed on the Escher at the expense of Reynolds rather than the other way around. Probably says something about my headspace.

You weren't, i don't think
I used melodies and bass lines that ascended and descended , even the progression relates to the way the builders in the picture are moving around the walls which relates to Escher , and a country theme.

Fair comments. I didn't mean to sound supercilious, just aware that my pitiful effort sticks out like a sore thumb.

PS - I voted for yours ;)

i agree,
we need to try and make this Thread more popular, and sociable.
after all, its just a bit of fun, and gets you thinking outside of your normal boxes
which i like .

We do our best ;)

Trouble is, many people just aren't interested in other people's music. Which seems counter-intuitive for a community of musicians, but that's how it is.

It's something I've encountered on every music community I've ever belonged to, so it's certainly not unique to Basschat. In fact Basschat has one of the most active community of musicians that I've come across, which is why I decided to linger here.

I think a lot of people just know what they like, like what they know, and aren't interested in much beyond that. They come here for a chinwag rather than anything musical per se. Which is of course very welcome and in many ways the backbone of the community.

I think the expression is "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink".

I've just listened and submitted my vote...well done to you all!
I've been thinking of giving the compositions a go but the level has been set so high :(

Thanks for the participation in the voting; next month, no false modesty..! Cut yourself some slack and have a go..! The level..? Complimentary, and appreciated, but you're quite certainly capable of doing what I, and some others here can do. We are not all high-flyers (for my part, I'm not even a bassist..!). Try it, it's great fun, and excellent motivation for learning all sorts of stuff. Up to you, of course, but don't feel intimidated. Give it a shot..?

As a piece of music my favorite was Bilbo's which interpreted one of the pictures beautifully (and I want to hear live by a string quartet). The issue was that I felt it ignored the other picture and for that reason my vote went elsewhere. Sorry :(

By the same token I felt a couple of the others were to Burt centric which left a choice of two (and I'm not telling)

Overall, even with only five entries I thought it was a good quality month.

Steve

PS Had one of Bilbo's violins been a banjo it would have fitted perfectly :)

Good point - I've voted the past few months , but , tbh I tend to need a wee prompt - like see it mentioned in a thread somewhere rather go to it automatically. I like it. well done to all.
