Too many tabs around

I am looking for relatively easy songs to play. I like Jefferson Airplane and thought White Rabbit maybe easyish. I can find bass tabs and plenty of guitar notation, but nothing for bass notation. Anyone any ideas where i can get it from please? I have looked in Amazon and Musicroom, but no luck. Everything seems to be tabs.

I know this is not the answer you are looking for, but why dont you try working things out
for yourself by ear ? Developing your ear is a great asset for playing bass. Any effort and
time spent on this, will pay dividends in the long run.

Probably because TAB is easier to write on a computer than dots...

I am learning to read music, hence the reason i wanted the notation. I have a book that teaches me how to read in a formulaic fashion, and very good it is too. However, it doesn`t show me how to play anything tangible, so wanted to learn a couple of songs that i know, to see if i am indeed learning anything.
Thanks for the suggestion though.Learning by ear woiuld be good . That will be something i will need to explore. The trouble being, when you are learning, there is only so much i can take in

Thanks Dad. That seems to be just the job. I will buy that today. The sample sheet doesn`t seem to difficult for me to learn, and the bit i don`t know, i can try to work out using my ear, so maybe 2 stones killed, so to speak.

Very true. Although i was looking for a book or something, which i would have thought would be reasonably easy to find. It seems that most books are written in tabs now. Also tabs are absolutley useless if i wanted to learn another instrument that wasn`t guitar based

Another 'easy' bassline from the Airplane would be 'Fat Angel', from 'Bless its Pointed Little Head'. Two notes, but well placed. You'll find it on t'tube if you want to give it a listen. Jack Casady is one of my all-time favourite bassists, and always worth a listen. Well done on going down the 'notes' route; it's worth the 'learning curve', and is not as difficult as some would make out.

I agree, Most of the books I've got are in proper notation and TAB, but as you say they're no use for learning on another instrument and don't give you the rhythm or timing anyway. I used to be able to read music reasonably well, but I've got out of that habit so my task this year is to start again.

I also find some books confusing. I have one that shows the notaion for 4 string bass, and on the same line, it shows 5 string notation, so you get notes so close together on the staff lines, it gets me in a bit of a muddle

Yes a great bit of advice thanks. I just got into writing stuff out when i didn`t really understand it, and it is amazing how you can find patterns in stuff, and realise i make things more complicated than it really is. Never thought of writing the score though as it sounded to difficult, so will give it a go. Off to town to buy a pad of blank paper

Learning music is also a very worthwhile pursuit. I am actually doing so myself at present. I will
probably never use it, but I am enjoying learning it.

Nice link. Thanks. That will keep me busy. I was always worried about looking at some of the stuff played by some of the more famous bass players. I always assumed it would be difficult. Some of it looks relatively easy, but i guess even the best players have bread and butter stuff. The music is in good taste as well

Remember that, as it's written for piano, the bassline will be written an octave lower than we would usually see.
