RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 What tuning do you use? Something annoying happened last week..I snapped the d string while tuning it! Don't know why this happened. I have a spare somewhere , which will be fitted this week. In the meantime I'm looking for the best tuning( including the thin octave strings). Especially if it's good for metal;) Cheers Quote
BigRedX Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Depends what I'm playing. Either standard - Ee Aa Dd Gg Or double octave - Ee Aa Ee Aa or Dd Gg Dd Gg Use the same strings all tunings. Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 Cheers brx. I find that ee aa. Dd gg isn't much to my liking. Still can't get over the string snapping. I like the kings x sound (also sabbath) Wondering what manowar tuned to (don't laugh;) Quote
BigRedX Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 No idea about Kings X or Manowar... My tunings are based on the fact that I play a lot of two note chords and open string drones when I use the 8-string, so with the Ee Aa Ee Aa it gives me 2 different octaves to choose from. Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 Thanks again brx, do you use effects with yours ? Quote
oggiesnr Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 The other interesting question is do you string it Ee or eE? I have the same issue with a twelve string guitar. Ee means tha with a pick you tend to hit the bass note first but with fingers you hit the octave first and they do give a different sound. I actually string my finger picking twelve string Ee Aa aD gG BB EE to give a consistent sound across the instrument. Steve Quote
