RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE
We can never have enough sockets for our electric gadgets. I intend to buy the above sometime before the weekend. Obviously, power surge protected. I also want something that fits chunky transformers . Looked on the usual sites, but am undecided. What do you use, or recommend? Cheers
oggiesnr
What are you intending to run on them? What's the rating of your circuit? Do a bit of maths first. After that I just wandered along to B&Q and picked out likely looking leads. Decided the time spent trying to knock a few pounds off the bill wasn't worth the effort. xgsjx
If you're running a few amps, then you'd be safer running 2 4gang cables taped together as you might overheat a single 13a cable or plug.
flyfisher
No you won't. The worst that will happen is that the fuse will blow. That's what it's for.
tedmanzie
i use these from claus ohlson in my studio and they seem very robust and well made. no surge protection but that is a good thing when powering amplifiers apparently. http://www.clasohlson.com/uk/Brennenstuhl-Extension-Leads/18-2231
0175westwood29
i have 2 6m 4 way extension reels, a surge protector is always good but these came from tesco and cost about 5 quid, no need to spend crazy money. andy
TimR
Why do you need to power 8-10 gadgets at the same time? While those transformers are plugged in they're still using power and heating up. If it's for pedals, maybe look at a single power distribution unit. RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE
Thanks for the input. Ok, at present I have; Computer-studio monitors (2plugs)- mixer -amp- effects unit- power line adapter- and will be getting another effects unit later this year. 2 of these items have chunky transformer plugs. More comments appreciated;)
tedmanzie
i power my amp (studio amp) from a separate socket, kettle lead straight into the plug, but everything else is on those extensions mentioned above. you're right about never having enough, i must have about 30 sockets available and i'm still running out... chris_b
Domestic leads are white, so whatever you get, go for the professional look and get it in black. Then the leads won't stand out on a dark stage.

Maybe he lives in a lightning prone area? I bought a bunch of black 4gang sockets from our local wholesaler and several meters of black flex and made up a few for gigs. Some 5m, 3m, 1m and some 30cm ones. Makes setting up lot more flexible as you can position the power pretty much where you need it with minimum excess cable. RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE
Interesting point about surge protection. I always thought of it as a safeguard /prevention etc. I have a good quality 4 way, but when you want the same model with 8 sockets it is not available . Norris
I use a power distribution block that came out of an old 19" computer rack. The power my band uses never comes close to 13 amps (so is safe on one socket), and it allows us all to plug in via an RCD adapter and guaranteed no earth loops. It's similar to these: http://www.olson.co.uk/vert_rack_units.htm
