Cog Custom ordered :) Seems to be a lot of these threads at the mo! :)

I went ahead and ordered myself a Cog Custom pedal today from Tom. It's gonna be a bit cosmetically weird, and may not be everyones bag, but I think its gonna be what I need on my board.

Its gonna be a Grand Tarkin Bass Fuzz, but with no external knobs, as I tend to find the sound I love and stick to it, it's gonna be a case of set and forget.

It will have trimpots internally, and I have plans to make them a little bit more accessible to me, but you will all have to wait and see I guess. I almost didn't even have a footswitch :D lol

sounds cool ( a pedal with no knobs would look fab)
what what if you play different venues with different acoustics and need to quickly tweak?look forward to seeing the pics

Then I'm screwed :D well I've got ideas to speed up tweaking, but really it won't be the easiest to do on the fly.

It's actually my worst nightmare lol, I'd rather have more knobs and no trim-pots :D

I know what you mean, but I find I always end up using a pedal with pretty much the same sound once I've played around and found what I like, this way, I won't knock knobs and settings and I kinda just like the idea if no knobs to worry about.

It won't be for everyone, but then we wouldn't love to give custom stuff a go if that was the case.

All good fun :D

I'd worry about not being able to tweak for different venues, but you'll need to get it out there to find out either way. If that is an issue, you could get it rehoused in a new case with knobs on top. I hope it works for you though. Keep us posted eh.

 • 1 month later...

I have just placed an order on one myself!
I had a chance to try a slightly modded Darklighter overdrive, and I loved it.
So I wanted to buy one... but if you're going to ask for a custom pedal (in my case, adding a clean blend), why not explore other possibilities?
Tom has been great to deal with, and the final pedal is going to be essentially a Darklighter overdrive, with extras:

1) it will have a clean blend control.

2) the clean blend will have a low pass filter knob, where at one end it'll have no effect.

3) it will have a series loop, so that I can easily link an octave or envelope filter (or anything, those are just the two pedals I'm most likely to want to use with it)

4) the loop will have a trim control, so that I can adjust the level down (rarely needed, but...)

5) there will be a pre/post mini switch, to choose what comes first: the darklighter or the loop.

6) there will be an overdrive bypass switch, to allow using only the loop, without the overdrive

7) and your usual master footswitch.

It's going to be a while, but that pedal allows me to use overdrive with others and connect all at once without using something like an LS2, simplifying cabling and saving a bit of space too.
I'm excited at having been able to choose exactly what options I wanted my pedal to have. Tom made it extremely easy, and fun, and I know the result will be awesome :)
I can't as I only have a connection at work and obviously the PORN title is blocked, any chance you could change it to PRON or something... I'd love to go and have a look... :)
Done :) There's not much in it just now!

As far as I know the Knightfall is based on the (now impossible to find) Voodoo Lab Overdrive, relatively similar to the OCD I understand...

Tom does a great rat clone though, the TK-421, which is what I have on my board at the minute. Mine has clean blend with a separate LPF (for the clean), and various clipping options including the amazing asymmetric LEDs!

Get one, you know you should!...

interesting! from my experiences with the fuzzrocious rat tail and OSD, I think the knightfall would be more up my street (on the demo it sounded like it had more bass than the OSD too!)... is the TK-421 a custom order only, it's not on the website...
