It's always the plastic moulded collar that slides up the pole and holds the top of the tripod that breaks. But I have the Proel air assisted ones; have used these with 15" full range speakers for some time with no problems. These are the more expensive pair but look the same as the cheaper type, they also have a safety pin. Basically web sites use the same picture for both but the air cushion units are best. Bit woried one day a punter will get a 15 inch speaker through their skull. Especially as however big the dancefloor they always seem to be drawn to standing right next to the speakers and tripping on the legs of the stands.
