For sale is my Yamaha SB55, built between 1973 and 1976, in extraordinary condition for its age. All original, apart from the back of the neck having been re-varnished at some point. No visible fret wear.

The not so good bits, for the purposes of full disclosure: there is a dink in the tip of the headstock, a small crack in the finish in the rear of the lower horn, a couple of small marks on the edge below the controls, and a little pitting in the finish along the back edge near the end strap button. Still in great condition for a 40-year-old bass! [s]The thumb rest is missing, but could easily be replaced.[/s] I have now bought a replacement thumb rest.

Plays beautifully, really slim at the nut, with a clear, resonant tone. These were quality instruments, easily rivalling any American made jazz basses of the same era, and this model is rare, having been made for such a short time.

£575. Sorry, but I'm not looking for any trades.

Stunning. I was down in Newcastle just after Christmas, a jazz band was set up & playing in the town centre - quite near where Howard Bass Doc's shop used to be, as it happens. The bassist had one of these - only one I've ever seen in real life.

Wish I could afford it!

Jon.

Very nice indeed!
Rare as. . . . . .

I've got an SB500 - sort of related to yours - Luvverly Bass.

Make sure you really want to move it - would take you ages to find another!!

That's very funky! Even the clunking great t-bird style headstock is funky! Ace bass, wish I was rich enough to buy it. GLWTS.
Norm.
