mrbassman_de Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) SOLD ! Very rare Don Grosh Jazz Bass J5-21 Bent Top. Spec: Ash body Quilted Maple top One piece Maple neck 34" - 21 frets Body high gloss Nitro finish ! Neck satin finish Neck width nut 47mm, 12th fret 69mm String spacing bridge 19mm Pickups DiMarzio Ultra Jazz Humbucker Aguilar OBP-1 preamp (Vol/Vol/Tone w. push-pull active-passive/Stacked Bass-Treble) Hipshot hardware Schaller straplocks Weight 4,4 kg Built in 2002 This bass has been played and shows some dings - mainly around the output jack. But otherwise it is in top condition, nearly zero fret wear, neck is perfectly set up and has no damage - feels great. The deep blue transparent Nitro finish has been slightly faded to a more greenish blue. For me it looks nice as it is. The sound is obviously based on the 70s originals, but with much more flexibility. Especially the B string provides a fully integrated deep and clear low end which I have heard on few basses only, especially JB5 clones. This is called Bent Top model because the Quilted Maple Top has not only been glued onto a plain body plank but has been bent over the already shaped contour instead. Exactly this bass - not only the model - has been reviewed in the German magazine "Gitarre&Bass" issue 07-2003 and has got enthusiastic comments from the author. Don Grosh is a well known luthier among US guitarists - especially for his excellent vintage reissue expertise - and builds about 10-15 basses in batches once in blue moon... SOLD ! lowregisterhead Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I played a Grosh in The Gallery a year or two back. Beautifully made, with great substance to the feel and sound. A fantastic instrument, good luck with the sale.
zapp Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Could almost take a swim in that top.... Beautiful Bass.
