How do you define or what constitutes a great bass riff.

For me it's when the bass leads the song, ie Under Pressure, Another one bites the Dust, Dancing in the Moonlight.

The groove. You can listen to it continuously, your head and/or feet are moving and the song simply dies when the bass is silenced.

Just a great riff that happens to be played on bass, don't think 'groove' or dancibility is any pre-requisite at all.
