Nickterry9
Hi, is the markbass Ny 121 cabinet the same cab that's in the cmd 121 combo? And if I bought one separately would it provide the same output as the combo using a similar powered amp? Or is it meant as more of an extension to combo rather than a stand alone? Thanks
BobVbass
Well probably..is the answer in its simplest form, it appears that both the combo and the cab use the same 8ohm driver and the amp part of the combo is just a Little Mark head - you'd get the same 300w of power through both - the combo has an SPL of 99db and the cab 100db perhaps there is a compromise in the combo cabinet having an integral amp but the cabinet would be louder - although whether you'd actually be able to hear the difference, who knows
yorks5stringer
I think you'd get the full 500 watts from the amp when using the combo and the extension as it will running at 4 ohms? molan
The standalone cab has a tweeter level control and the combo's tweeter is always on (unless, like me, you remove it from the circuit completely!).
Lozz196
Pretty much as all the above. Great little cabs (and combos), and the pair sound great together, a real hefty sounding little rig that really has to be tried to be believed. Ed_S
Just got back from rehearsing with my new NY121 and was very impressed with it. I went with it over the combo because a} I already have MB heads, so why buy another and b} as mentioned I can manage the tweeter on the cab but can't properly on the combo. Maybe cheated a little bit because I was using the LM800 so had a fair bit more power available than the combo would have, but it's just successfully done battle with a full drum kit and two guitarists using 200W and 300W rack rigs through Marshall 1936 (2x12) cabs, and I actually had to turn down a bit from where I assumed I'd need to be pitching to keep up. I took a grainy photo on my phone for no other reason than I recalled seeing this thread and thought I'd enthuse a little when I got back home
