Greg.Bassman
Hey. Wondered if I may pick your brains please? Any info is appreciated. I am currently using the ABM 810. It’s a great sounding cab; but it’s become a hassle to shift around though! So instead, I’m thinking of downsizing to the ABM 410. I find myself in two minds about the 410 after hearing that it features a horn though; I’ve heard that there is a difference between sealed and ported cabs. I’ve come to love the tight punch I get from my 810, so I don’t really want to venture away from that. If I set the ‘Horn control switch’ to ‘off’ on the 410 (see attached pic), will I get the same effect as the sealed cab (810) sound that features no horn? Obviously, I won’t get the same amount of volume, but will the tone be there? Kind regards.
Salt on your Bass?
I'm a bit out of my depth on this but I'd imagine a ported design to perform differently to a sealed enclosure. I owned a 410 abm with an evoii and couldn't get it biting enough in the minds for my taste and I play a little scooped I think. Nit really much help I'm afraid but I'd see if there's a bc'er local perhaps to try one out, or buy second hand sensibly and shift it on once you've ab'd it perhaps. chrismuzz
Generally, ported cabs are more efficient, and are able to produce more lows. Whereas an 810 will sound tighter and be more pronounced in the mids
Greg.Bassman
Great. Thank you both for your feedback, appreciate it! Is there anybody else out there that can shed some light on the 410? All info is appreciated!
0175westwood29
not the same cab but ive gone from a ported orange 410 to my mag 810, like chris said noticeable mid bump with the 810 so you will need to adjust your eq to suit. local practice space has the 410s they are nice cabs i never used the horn as i dnt like them tbh, is their a sealed 410 out there? ive only ever seen ported. andy
Greg.Bassman
Cool, thanks for the feedback Andy . A sealed 410 by Ashdown would most defo be answer to my troubles! But sadly, only in an ideal world- I've checked. Like you say, it could be an EQ thing. Edited February 14, 2014 by Greg.Bassman
tbonepete
Hi Greg, There's always the ABM 610, it's sealed, has no horn, and is smaller than the 810. Until recently I had one and can say that it's quite heavy, but thanks to the heavy duty castors and top handle (as well as the side handles) it's not too bad to move around. I found it plenty loud enough for me but perhaps a bit too gritty in the mids for my taste. Cheers Pete
Handwired
Stick with the 8x10 for as long as you can, the 4x10 will never sound as good.
Greg.Bassman
Great! Thank you all for your feedback, much appreciated! Is there anybody else out there that could shed some more light on the 410? or perhaps even the 610 (now that its been mentioned)? Any info is appreciated! Kind regards. Greg. gillento
As far as I can see it, they are offering two different 410 cabs: http://ashdownmusic....Valve/15/CL410/ http://ashdownmusic....-410H-Cabinet-/ Edited February 20, 2014 by gillento
chris_b
You can't EQ a ported cab to sound like a non-ported cab.
Greg.Bassman
Thank you for your feedback Gillento, appreciate it! Yes, I am aware of both 410's; I have been informed that the CL series is not that good though, and (not to mention) being way more expensive! Thanks again Chris b, thank you for the feedback also; that answers that one then
