Now that my Alpher Instruments bass is complete, I think it qualifies as bass porn?!
You can find the build diary in the relevant forum.
Here's the spec:
1 piece swamp ash body
Spalted maple top
Wenge veneer
Wenge neck
Macassar Ebony fingerboard
Hipshot hardware, with D-tuner on the E string
Wizard pickups
Custom John East pre-amp (Controls are Volume, pan, treble, bass, passive tone. Switches are active / passive, and bridge pickup series / coiltap / parallel)
Strings are Alpher Instruments own brand

This is number 10 off the production line. :)

I acquired my Alpher 2nd hand but it’s a masterpiece! So much so that I have my own spec of Alpher in order.  My current Alpher is a Claro Walnut body, Buckeye Top, Rosewood Neck, Ziricote fingerboard. Nordstrand big man pickups. It’s a beast!

Yeah the burnt  ash is a beauty! I saw the body in the flesh when I was down a few months ago! I was very tempted to go the same route for my next bass. But I wanted a light coloured bass. I’m going with a walnut body, Italian sycamore top wood, sycamore neck and fingerboard, with a walnut scratch plate. Chris and Al are great guys, who are masters of their craft! I don’t think I will ever buy an instrument from another company.

I also have an Alpher bass elite passive 5 string in the works. Crotched English Walnut top on a swamp ash body, roasted/flamed neck with rocklite fingerboard and nordstrand big split and big man pickups with him some crazy pickup switching options! The wait is a killer tho, I just want it now!! haha

Those are the pickups I have with 4 way switching for each pickup! Good choice! It’s incredibly versatile. It will be worth the wait

I'll be adding to this! After lots of uhming and ahing, I saw a post on their Instagram which had me going to see them at first given opportunity. Went up to Alpher HQ for a few hours yesterday, and this morning I ordered myself an Alpher. Words can't describe my excitement!

It'll be a 5 string Mako Elite 5, with a crazy burl top and matching headstock. Ebony 'board with a birdseye maple neck. Body is single piece maple (it looks amazing), pickups will be three Aguilar Super Singles, and an OBP-3 pre amp. 33" scale (because I'm a short derrière), not much weight. Oh, and some of the offcut from the cap (the electric blue bit) will be going into a 12th fret inlay.
