Absolute Beginner
Hi all. Silly question time..... Does an Ibanez SR300 need a battery in order to use it ?! If so, which type does it take ? Many thanks.
Musky
The SR300 has active electronics so it'll require a standard 9V battery. It'll be powered up by plugging in a jack, so be sure to unplug it when you're not using it.
Absolute Beginner
Thanks Musky. Do you mean unplug the battery or the jack ?! Cheers.
Musky
You just unplug the jack.

Silvia Bluejay
Watch out for potential narrow battery housing and slightly bigger-than-standard 9V batteries - a combination that may give you trouble closing or screwing back the compartment cover and/or cause you to pull or twist some of the internal wires. Absolute Beginner
Thanks bluejay. Do you know if all Ibanez basses are "active" ? Cheers.
Evil Undead
I believe so, apart from some of the GSR series.
bass boy
You can buy rechargeble batterys that are really worth it
Woodinblack
Virtually all SRs / ATKs and BTBs are - there are some other series that aren't such as the artcores and the new smaller ones. I had a iceman bass that wasn't (until I fixed that), and there are some older ones too.

They lose their charge much quicker than standard Alkaline or Lithium ones. The pre-amp takes very little current anyway so as long as you buy decent batteries, they will last ages.

Agree with this - rechargables have lower voltages to start with and most active basses take no power. Generally speaking replacing a battery is more likely just because it is old than it has run out. In fact, on my old SR1000 prestige, the batteries seem to last longer than the pots. He's probably given up, as that was the last thread he contributed to and he hasn't been back since the end of 2014...
