Bilbo Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Apparently, he died of a heart attack whilst playing with his kids on a beach in Mexico. I guess, if you are going to go, that may be the best way http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paco_de_lucia Quote
leftybassman392 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I'm saddened to hear this. Probably the most gifted player of his generation. Quote
spongebob Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Very sad. First heard him playing with John Mclaughlin. Quote

Grand Wazoo Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Very sad to hear this, I liked his playing a lot. Saw him playing live many times with Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin etc, but one of the most remarkable thing I saw him playing was the traditional Tablao Flamenco in a very small club in Spain with Flamenco dancers and a singer called El Camaron De La Isla, it was just his guitar, the singer and the lady dancers with those finger clackers and their heels to provide the beat, it was amazing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VKtAhJPZS6o Quote
steve-bbb Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 very tragic circumstances http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-26351251 Quote

shizznit Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 My dad is a big fan. Just text him about his passing and didn't know. He's gutted. I grew up listening to his albums. Very sad loss indeed. RIP Paco Quote
visog Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Yes - great shame. Loved the trio... This vid is my favourite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpdkslpMJV8 Quote
Scott S Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Wow, I'm shocked and saddened. In a round-about way it was Paco who was responsible for my taking up the bass. Back in the early '80's my dad video taped "The Meeting of the Spirits" (Paco, Larry Coryell and John McLaughlin) when it was shown on Channel 4. From McLaughlin I heard about Stanley Clarke. Chau, Paco. Quote
philparker Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 One of my favourite guitarists of all time - I've been listening to him since the 70s, indeed, I still have him on vinyl Very sad...RIP Quote
