tayste_2000 Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 It's an ongoing series but I've got some of my blog dedicated to my iOS setup Might be interesting for a few of you (not Shep, he doesn't care, I checked) http://www.tayste.co.uk/2014/02/24/the-ios-bassist-pt1-an-introduction/ http://www.tayste.co.uk/2014/02/25/the-ios-bassist-pt2-moving-forward/ http://www.tayste.co.uk/2014/02/27/the-ios-bassist-pt3-audiobus/ Quote
dannybuoy Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Nice writeup. If you've got any clips of the drive pedal or overdriven amp sounds, I'd love to hear them! I've got a Nexus 7 - I much prefer Android over iOS, but the availability of music apps is the only thing I feel I am missing out on! Quote
jassbass Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Ive been wondering if I could gig using my ipad.i dont know much about this.what would I need to get started?thanx Quote
dannybuoy Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I think the links in the original post answer that question! Quote
tayste_2000 Posted February 27, 2014 Author Posted February 27, 2014 Yeah Android has been fundamentally flawed with audio due to a latency in it's architecture. I believe these are solved now but it's now 3 years behind the curve. Quote
jassbass Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 If I had a jam plug in,could I use the output to go to my bass rig? Quote

[/quote] Yeah, it's a bit of a minefield with device support, some devices support USB audio interfaces plugged straight in, some don't, etc. Apple is a lot simpler for a hardware manufacturer to support in this respect. I've never played an amp sim for bass that I've like the sound of (tried a fair few VSTs including Amplitube SVX) but am yet to try the latest generation modellers (Amplitube Orange, AxeFX, Line6 HD series, Kemper, iOS apps, etc). The Kemper profiling amp certainly has my interest. Edited February 27, 2014 by dannybuoy Quote
OmeDunk Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) Enjoyed your blog! Thinking of getting me a sonic port now Edited February 28, 2014 by OmeDunk Quote
Wooks79 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 It's been a great read so far Ste, keep it coming. Out of interest, have you ever tried pedals into iPad? Bass > pedals > sonic port > iPad app ? Do they play nice or just mess it all up? Quote

Obviously boosts won't work well, unless of course you're leaving yourself loads of headroom, again this is something you Solid State guys will be more use to. I'm going to be doing some comparison clips of fuzz's into the ipad both virtual and real. Quote
jassbass Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Which is better sonicport or istomp ,to use output Into backline?thanx Quote
tayste_2000 Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 Anything that uses the 3.5mm headphone input on your iOS device is much much lower quality than anything that uses the dock adaptor and currently the Line 6 uses the dock adaptor for all inputs and outputs so it's one of the best available at the moment. Unless of course you have the money for an Apogee Duet (not the Jam). Hope this helps Quote
OmeDunk Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I wonder which interface Palladino uses with NiN. Anybody's got an idea? Quote

Prime_BASS Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 (edited) This is excellent, what I've been looking for really when I posted the thread in the accessories section. Definitely going to try and pickup a sonic port now. No experience to call from but how does one go about modelling an amp via Bias? That along with jam up has sold this route for me so far. And buying effects to try out is a lot cheaper than actually buying the effect in reality. How much in do you reckon it would cost to get setup as an iOS bassist. I already have an iPad, so need a interface and some apps, plus more effects than necessary lol ? Edited March 3, 2014 by Prime_BASS Quote
tayste_2000 Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 £100 tops with £70 of that being the interface Quote
