It's an ongoing series but I've got some of my blog dedicated to my iOS setup

Might be interesting for a few of you (not Shep, he doesn't care, I checked)

Nice writeup. If you've got any clips of the drive pedal or overdriven amp sounds, I'd love to hear them!

I've got a Nexus 7 - I much prefer Android over iOS, but the availability of music apps is the only thing I feel I am missing out on!

Yeah Android has been fundamentally flawed with audio due to a latency in it's architecture.

I believe these are solved now but it's now 3 years behind the curve.

Yeah, it's a bit of a minefield with device support, some devices support USB audio interfaces plugged straight in, some don't, etc. Apple is a lot simpler for a hardware manufacturer to support in this respect.

I've never played an amp sim for bass that I've like the sound of (tried a fair few VSTs including Amplitube SVX) but am yet to try the latest generation modellers (Amplitube Orange, AxeFX, Line6 HD series, Kemper, iOS apps, etc). The Kemper profiling amp certainly has my interest.

It's been a great read so far Ste, keep it coming.

Out of interest, have you ever tried pedals into iPad?

Bass > pedals > sonic port > iPad app ?

Do they play nice or just mess it all up?

I've not, I'm going to try this soon though. Obviously boosts won't work well, unless of course you're leaving yourself loads of headroom, again this is something you Solid State guys will be more use to.

I'm going to be doing some comparison clips of fuzz's into the ipad both virtual and real.

Anything that uses the 3.5mm headphone input on your iOS device is much much lower quality than anything that uses the dock adaptor and currently the Line 6 uses the dock adaptor for all inputs and outputs so it's one of the best available at the moment.

Unless of course you have the money for an Apogee Duet (not the Jam).

Hope this helps

This is excellent, what I've been looking for really when I posted the thread in the accessories section.

Definitely going to try and pickup a sonic port now.

No experience to call from but how does one go about modelling an amp via Bias?

That along with jam up has sold this route for me so far. And buying effects to try out is a lot cheaper than actually buying the effect in reality.

How much in do you reckon it would cost to get setup as an iOS bassist.
I already have an iPad, so need a interface and some apps, plus more effects than necessary lol ?

I've bought an interface, two bass packs for jam up and a hercules stand and I've spent £110.

Awesome read there Ste, been thinking about going down the iOS route for a while for recording at least but I reckon you've given me the push I needed
