Guinness21
I'm looking at getting a new bass, and it's between an american standard p bass and an american deluxe jazz bass. The jazz is the nicer instrument, but it lacks a bit of the low end umph of the precision. But it's far more versatile - essentially what I'm asking is will something like the diamond bass comp give me that 'umph' that the jazz is lacking? Lozz196
I`d look more at the eq on the Jazz itself. I had one of these for a while - the older model without the passive/active switch - and selecting the neck pickup, bass and mids on full and treble either in the flat setting or fully off, it was 90% Precision sound (and I`m nuts about Precisions, so wouldn`t say that on a whim). I find compressors tighten everything up, and level out the peaks & troughs of the playing, but really to emphasise the character of the instrument itself, so really I`d expect more Jazz than anything else. dannybuoy
Try fitting an S1 switch to the Jazz for series/parallel switching. Supposedly sound more like a P-Bass when in series. Otherwise, as Loz says, use the EQ!
xgsjx
I tried an American Jazz & it certainly didn't suffer from a lack of low end umph. Made me consider getting a Fender too!
