The client turned out to be avant-garde American musician Frank Zappa. Frank asked Pauline to type up the lyrics of his album, Absolutely Free – a task she found somewhat baffling. Out of this encounter a friendship grew, and Pauline was invited to work for Frank in Los Angeles, where regular visitors to his log cabin home in Laurel Canyon included Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton and Captain Beefheart. It was the height of the Summer of Love, although things would rapidly change… Pauline’s book about her experience, Freak Out! - My Life with Frank Zappa, has been adapted by Matt Broughton and will air as part of Radio 4's Afternoon Drama slot on Tuesday 6 May Edited May 4, 2014 by steve-bbb

jakenewmanbass
I've mentioned this before but a while ago, I was lucky enough to tour with Ike Willis and have done a classical concert with Bobby Martin all around Zappa material, and slightly off centre I met Chad Wackerman backstage at a James Taylor gig, I know it's a clangsville post but I figured some folk would find it interesting. I've been a huge Zappa fan since my teens so to meet and play with the guys I grew up listening to and learning from was a massive honour. No lust in Jazz
A while back, I found an audio clip on Youtube of FZ backstage talking with his crew, he'd recently changed pickups in his guitar. I mention this as their was a warmth and tangilbe 'excitement' in his voice (he didn't know that the mic was on) which is missing from just about every other piece I've heard - I'll try looking again for it.
