So, after a number of years playing modern long scale basses with 5+ strings, this polar-opposite rock beast lands on my doorstep: a late 60's Gibson EB3.

The low end is truly walloping, but the fun will really start when a set of D'Addario Chrome flatwounds arrive tomorrow to replace the old roundwounds it's currently wearing...

At some point soon, a good friend of mine will be bringing over Ashdown's take on a B15 - lawdy, i can hardly wait!

Wow, that is stunning and - as you say - poles apart from the other main bass in your sig :D On a related note, the modern take on this (Gibson SG bass) seems to be really good value (£599 for the 2014 'Special' or the faded cherry version at Dawsons) given its US-made. Got me thinking ....

Looks great for it's age, lush. Through the Ashdown it will sound fab. Time to brush up the Cream licks.

Agreed, first thing you have to play on these is some Jack Bruce, it's the law!! Congrats, very cool bass.

You lucky so-and-so! All the recent SG/EB talk on here is giving me a serious GAS attack.

Chrome flats sound great on basses like this. Thumptastic!

Enjoy your bass.

Clarky - i just got a chocolate satin SG Special on tuesday & really love it.
Silly price for a USA Gibson & the vintage brown hardcase is rather nice too.

John make sure you're in this evening after 8pm as I am dropping the Ashdown at yours

Look after it properly this is as a rare beast as is your bass, no serial number and with a commemorative plaque

So, the Chrome Flatwounds (short scale) turned up today, as did Grand Wazoo's Drophead marvel...

We had a quick blast (no time to fit the flats and had to keep it down 'cos of neighbours <_< ) and agreed that the sounds we were getting were just "right", especially pushing some overdrive. Will be even better with the flats - I'll report back soon :D
