Hobbayne Posted March 7, 2014 Share Posted March 7, 2014 For the umpteenth time last weekend while singing and playing, the strap came off leaving me clutching the bass while trying to finish the song. I am now considering the straplock route. There are quite a few different ones on the market and I,m a bit overwhelmed by the choice. There are some cheap plastic ones by Dunlop and more expenisive Fender ones which I assume I have to fit to the guitar myself? What does the Basschat world recommend?? bonzodog Posted March 7, 2014 Share Posted March 7, 2014 I get rubber washers from my local hardware shop, the same size as the Grolsch bottle rubbers. Simply put your strap on then place these over the top. The only problem is you need to really leave your strap on all the time so as not to bend the washers. Sometimes you may need two or three washers together to bulk it out but its such a cheap option and its never let me down. My Nate Mendel came with strap locks... They came straight off and will live in the gig bag as long as I own it! lozbass Posted March 7, 2014 Share Posted March 7, 2014 I have both Schaller and Dunlop straplocks and find both easy to use and install. I don't really have a preference and have one strap with the fittings for Schaller, and another with those for Dunlop. If I was to be picky, I'd say that the Dunlop spring clip (for the strap end) can be a bit fiddly, but it's really no big deal and I've found the company to be remarkably helpful - customer care is excellent. EDI: I too had the self-unscrewing thing at a gig once. A couple of drops of threadlock did the trick.
