TomRichards
I'm throwing this out there because here in the USA there seems to be a trend to go to cheaper amps now, even if they are inferior in sound or design. So, my friends on the other side of the pond, at what price do you start to say "No Thanks." There is such a range in amp pricing right now, its hard to understand. tom
chris_b
Why buy an amp which has inferior sound? That's one trend I won't be following.

LukeFRC
there seems to be a trend to go to cheaper amps now, even if they are inferior in sound or design.
Interesting question. You can sometimes see the same in bass guitars, even the very cheap ones are usable. I guess for me there's a point in the pricing structure where paying extra isn't getting you something better, just different. In bass guitars I would guess that everything over £600 or so new price will be a bass that could last you a lifetime. Amps are a little different as it's harder to work out the quality of the construction and parts used, and a lot of the newer amps seem to use the same power modules.... I would say that in many cases I can see why the top end are considered top end but I'm not convince the difference in quality and design between a mid-range mid-price bass amp and a cheaper amp are really actually that big
Beer of the Bass
I think that a lot of cheaper amps are capable of sounding very good now (thinking of things like the GK MB series or the Hartke LH500 for instance), so there are diminishing returns as you go upmarket from there. Speakers are a very different story, of course.

molan
I guess my limit would be £2K for an amp (excluding cabs).
