TheGreek
As part of this day I'd like to do a blind test of, say, Precision basses - everything from your £99 bass models to your hyper models and see if people really can tell the difference. If you own a P bass, irrespective of the brand/cost please bring it along..

TheGreek
What I'd like to do is list all the P Basses on a prepared sheet of paper, for them to be played (preferably all by the same person to take that out of the equation) and see how many people can actually "guess" correctly which is which. Hopefully will fuel the debate whether it is actually worth spending mega bucks on gear or whether your less expensive models can do the same job at a reduced cost... Silvia Bluejay
All played by the same person and on the same rig, with the same settings, probably. That sounds intriguing, and I've tweeted your post

My Berg cab is quite coloured sounding though
TheGreek
As Sylvia suggested - same rig, same player, same settings - I'm hoping that Lozz will run this for us - after all I think he once had a P Bass (irony intended).
charic
Aye, same rig, cab and settings but what rig, cab and settings would you like to run? do we got for the classic ampeg rig? Or do we go flat DI into a PA? Etc
Twigman
not hard to tell which is which by looking at which is being played, is it?
Silvia Bluejay
We'll have to get a nice screen to shroud the bass's identity in mystery...

charic
You should have people guess whether it's maple or rosewood while they're at it

charic
Yeah sounds good to me! Could each bass be played with and without pick? I'm a pick user myself and I'd be interested in the differences between differences there too
Happy Jack
And pedals. Lots of pedals. Don't forget the pedals.
TheGreek
I think we'll need to create a list of criteria we can test against - pretty sure most people will be able to differentiate between a pick and fingers though. Whether they can differentiate between each brand and model played with pick/fingers may be a different matter..

Kinda way

seashell
This sounds fun. I'd love to include my humble MIM Fender P in the test. I've heard it played by KevB through his rig and it definitely sounded a lot better than when I play it! It would be fun to discover if people can tell it's 'just' a MIM.
