EmmettC
I played a gorgeous 5 string Overwater in Live Music today, my first time playing one and I was really impressed, though for close to £1700 they could do with putting some new strings on. Based on the shape, I think it was a perception. It's way out of my budget at the moment, but worth a look for anyone who is on the lookout for something nice. I hope I can afford something like this soon, but I would be more likely to go with their jazz bass 5, anyone know how the compare to the perception? Beer of the Bass
If it's a commission sale it might not be theirs to change the strings on. They do get some interesting stuff in - I recall really fancying the MM Sabre they had in but not being able to afford it!
EmmettC
They do always have great stuff, I remember they had a MM bongo there a few years ago, and a lovely red Fender Jazz V I really wanted. It could well be a commission sale, and I'm sure if I had the money to buy it they would be happy to change the strings for me.
EmmettC
Overwater are a lot more than tanglewood. They make really beautiful handmade basses, they have been around for about 30 years and are really highly regarded. They do, or did, have a range of factory made basses made by tanglewood, it was a way of bringing their designs to another market, apparently they were great basses too. BigRedX
How well known are Overwater? I thought they were posh Tanglewood basses, or is this a 'diluting' of an older more highly regarded brand name?
You probably want to take a look at Basschat's Overwater Porn Thread.
