Hi fellow Basschatters,

I've made this mistake before and you would think i would've learned my lesson by now,
but no, i did it again... :dash1:

I had serious G.A.S. for the 4 string version of this bass for a while now,
so as soon as i had the money to pay for it i placed my order for a brand new FGN neo classic 70's JB4,

Unfortunately it turned out the store's site was out of date and none of the EU importers had the 4 string version in stock,
disappointed as i was i let myself be convinced by the store to buy the 5 string version instead as this was still available
and as you can probably already imagine i love this bass to bits as it has everything that i'd look for in a bass,
but i'm really struggling to get along with the B-string
(and especially the tighter string spacing at the nut is making it hard for me to slap)
so now i wish it had only four strings,
that's why i'm already considering to trade this for a similar 4 string after only 2 weeks of owning it
as i'm afraid i will never completely get used to the string spacing on this 5 string beauty.

I must say that although.i'm having trouble adapting to the string spacing,
she's a real lovely player and if i manage to play her right she sounds superb
and she puts out a massive amount of low end for a passive jazz bass.

Everything on this bass looks like it has been put together
with an amazing eye for detail and the quality,
craftsmanship and looks easily surpass any of the Fender jazz's i've ever had the chance to put my hands on.
(some reviewers on Talkbass and other forums have even compared the quality of these FGN basses
with the Fender custom shop models as each of these basses just feels and looks perfectly right out of the box
and the consistency in quality is amazing )

The frets look like they're PLEK'd and they have some sort of curve to them
(they call it CFS in think) so each string hits the fret at the best possible spot and angle
to achieve superb playability and intonation.

Although this bass is completely passive and i expected to hear some hum when soloing the bridge or neck pick-up,
this bass is dead-quit, i've tried playing all possible combinations of both pick-up's
and even with one pick-up on full and the other completely off
i haven't managed to get any single coil hum which is really nice if you want to do some recording soloing the bridge or neck pick-up.

The pick-up's pack some serious output and i believe i've read somewhere
that they are FGN's take at the custom shop 70's pick-up's.

For those that don't now about FGN basses, they are the own brand of the Fujigen factory that used to make
the good old Japanese Fenders and many other top vintage instruments,
they've been very well represented on NAMM over the last few years,
but over here in Europe they're not very well known yet,
which is a shame as they offer way better quality and consistence than the more well known brands a.t.m.
(all i.m.o and i.m.e. of course)

I'm going to be really sad to see this go, but i'm just much more comfortable playing a 4 string,
so this might be perfect for someone who's in need of a high quality 5 string jazz at a serious discount. B)

If you haven't heard about Fujigen's new home brand i'm sure you'll find plenty of information and reviews on Talkbass
and maybe even here on BC if you have a look around,

Here's a link to FGN facebook page in case you want to take a look there:

and the bass i'm offering here is (one of their latest models) exactly the same as the one in this add:

New these go for 1430£, but the store made me a deal because they made a mistake
by leaving the 4 string listed on the site as"in stock" while it was no longer available,
so i'm willing to let this go for 950£ o.n.o. cash or a trade with a 4 string of similar value or less value + cash.

I'd prefer a trade with a 4 string fretted passive jazz , but might consider other 4 strings as well and might also be intrested in taking some basic recording equipment as a partial trade if that would make it easier to come to a deal (usb- audio interface or audio-camera to do some home recordings and make some gear reviews).

I Still have the original packaging available to ensure safe shipping and i've just put a fresh set of DR sunbeams 45-125 on it as factory strings felt a little dead to me,another plus is that the gigbag that comes with the bass is one of the best quality gigbags i've ever owned and i would never imagined to get a gigbag like this when buying the bass , but i guess the Japanese know how to use their attention to detail when it comes to things like this... :D

Check it out if you're looking for a good 5 string jazz, these are still pretty rare in Europe and i'm sure these will only go up in value
once FGN starts making a name for itself.

As i said before, the normal price is 1430£ and this one is just 2weeks old, has only been played for a couple of hours and just had a set-up with fresh DR Sunbeams, so i think at 950£ (o.n.o.) this is one hell of a bargain for someone!

Insured shipping to the U.K. is included in the price.

As to trades: just let me know what you've got to offer and we'll see where we go from there. ;)

Picture time!
