franzbassist
If I want to keep the same footprint (i.e. not go to Ultralites), is there anything on the market lighter than the Hipshot HB2? LawrenceH
Gotoh Resolite GB640? It's the 'other' Fender footprint shape though.

I wonder how much the HB2 is lighter than a regular Fender tuner, if at all?
franzbassist
Anyone know the weight of the Hipshot HB2 (tuner only, not the bushing or screws)?
Biaeothanata-Bassist
I don't know the weight of them mate but I use them on my P Bass along with the detuner that goes with them and it's hasn't caused the neck to dive or changed the way the bass feels to play, just made the tuning a lot more stable. Hope this helps you a bit at least?
franzbassist
Thanks for the reply. If you ever fancy taking one off and weighing it for me, that would be a real help! Edited March 19, 2014 by walbassist
ikay
Here are a couple of posts that may help: http://badassbassplayers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15882 - "I've contacted Hipshot. It looks like HB2 are ~22g lighter (each) than Schaller BMFL" http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f57/tuning-peg-weight-155613/ - Schaller BMFL weighs 110g (second post down) Which puts the HB2 at 88g or thereabouts. [/quote] Thanks! Yes, it's turning out to be an interesting question for something that should be so simple. I weighed two tuners of my P bass: they were each 102g. Two sources have told me that the Hipshot HB2 weighs 86g A saving of 64g across the headstock is probably not worth the expense!
Legion
I've got some figures for these at home as I've owned most types and made a point of weighing them all - I'll let you know the details when I get home

Do you know if the screw hole for an Ultralite would be hidden by the plate of the regular Fender 70s tuner if the originals were put back on?
