bubinga5
Emma hear, Andrew let me loose on his account. when i hear this guy do his thing, it just boggles my mind as to how good this guy was. on par with Mr Wonder in my opinion. what would he have gone on to do.? then Mr Weeks's incredible bass line. just a joy to listen to is this. thank you good bye lovely people. xx http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLUh70zp0LE Edited March 24, 2014 by icastle Link fixed. Len_derby
Wish I'd got a sister with such taste, ha ha! The Donny H. live album is one of my all-time favourites. It's easy to overlook that he was a great keyboards player too. What a terrible loss at such an early age.
originalfunkbrother
One of the baddest bass lines ever, me thinks.
TheGreek
I think Andrew posted something from this album previously - I remember because this is one of the albums (well a 5 album box set) I went out and bought on his recommendation.... BTW welcome to the forum, Emma.. Edited March 15, 2014 by TheGreek
spongebob
I've got all Donny's stuff - I particularly love 'Extension Of A Man', really excellent. His material with Roberta Flack is no slouch either - prefer the 'later' period, although there's little of it due to Donny's problems. 'Back Together Again' is timeless (although no WW on bass). Check out any Curtom (Curtis Mayfield's label) compilations - Donny worked for the company and features on some tracks there - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpA9DtQLV70 Such a tragic, and mysterious end to a great man. 'Someday We'll All Be Free' always reduces me to a blubbering heap!

Bailey, writer of 'Love, Love, Love', and contains his version. One of the finest soul albums ever made. He did a follow up, far lesser know, and only availble on deleted vinyl (I've not heard it). JRB died, from what I've read, in early 1980, but details are scarce. But for any DH fans, an essential purchase/download/stream album

The Admiral
Donny Hathaway - absolutely fantastic singer and a great keys player too. His daughter is one of the vocal coaches and sings backing on American Idol. They had a guy doing 'Song for you' about 5 years ago, and he made a pretty good fist of it : didn't win of course, far too able an not bubblegum enough, but worth watching : http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cxabseOoVQQ
