Muzz Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Stranglers. Any of it, but especially the first 15 seconds of Hanging Around. Quote
Wotcher Posted March 15, 2014 Author Posted March 15, 2014 Funny. I was going to say... Or Outside Tokyo but thought that would be a bit obscure.... Quote

Wotcher Posted March 15, 2014 Author Posted March 15, 2014 Lots of great examples here and some that venotbeen aware of so a good education, and of course terrific players. But it's the giveaway clickety click of the pick rather than just knowing they are pick users. Hence my Doors example at the start of the thread. Quote
booboo Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 For the old school fender + flats + pick vibe try any 60's/70's Carol Kaye or Joe Osborn stuff. Probably not inspiring sounds solo'ed, but the way they sit in a mix is magical. Quote
Hobbayne Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 The Beatles Everybodys Got Something To Hide, The little bass riff in the middle 8. I love that tone. Quote
Paul S Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 'Is She Really Going Out With Him', Joe Jackson. Jazz bass, tone off, clicky pick. Quote
BigRedX Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 I'd pick this. But then I'm biased. Quote

deepbass5 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 check this from 1:35 min You say Pick and i think of this instrumental section. http://youtu.be/llFJ-MwwMck Quote
deepbass5 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Oh and this one, I have the dots to this if anyone is interested This is so very much a pick number I have real difficulty as a finger player doing it justice, as the track relies on the pick up and pick down motion attacking the next string above and below in the fraises. Hats off to you pick guys. http://youtu.be/HxEhMoKohzQ Quote

No lust in Jazz Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) I've always liked the sound of plectrum with a Bass, the work of Andy West, Booby Vega and Scott Thunes has been an influence on my own playing. I've never quite understood why when a plectrum is used on a bass it is nearly exclusively used to showcase the the 'Punky Growl' of an amp etc.. for example see the Mesa Boogie Prodigy demo videos. There's so much more that can be done. Edited March 17, 2014 by No lust in Jazz Quote
