flyfisher Posted March 18, 2014 Share Posted March 18, 2014 Exactly. The maximum current a French socket can supply is 16A and the IEC mains lead is rated for this and so needs no other protection. However, in the UK, most mains outlets are protected by 30A fuses in the consumer unit, which means that an unfused IEC lead COULD be overloaded, but the 13A fuse in the UK mains plug ensures this cannot happen.
