Horizontalste
I'm a complete novice when it comes to effects, in fact I only ever use compression but lately I feel I need to fill the space in some of our songs so I'm looking at a few gadgets. I'm thinking along the lines of a TC tuner, MXR overdrive, MXR octave & my newly acquired Opto Stomp. I like what the MXR pedals do separately but my question is, is there any reason these pedals couldn't go on the same board? Like I said I'm not up on these things & I don't want to spend loads buying and selling. Any advice and tips greatly received. Steve
Marsy
That's quite horizontal of you ste! Ha ha If your buying/selling here, then you can usually try em out and sell em again at next to no loss if they aren't for you... Trying them, that's part of the fun! Horizontalste
Horizontal is the only way dude. I will be buying off here if the things come up & I don't get impatient, I just bought my opto from a bc member & intended on putting my MXR compression up for sale but I'll hold onto it for now. I kinda like to keep things simple hense not wanting to get hooked up on trying loads, if I can get the sounds I like first time then that's a bonus. xgsjx
There's no reason that those pedals (or any pedals) can't all go on the same board other than what You like. And the only way to find out is to try things.
Horizontalste
Cool, I was worried about power supplies being different more than anything. Excited about trying it out though.
xgsjx
Check how many mA each pedal draws & add them all together, then make sure the PSU supplies more than is needed. I have 2 pedals that draw @ 80mA, 1 that draws 120mA & one that draws 300mA. 3 of those pedals are 9v & the other one is the opposite polarity & 12v. I run them all off a 1.7A 9v daisy with a polarity reverser on the one pedal. Most pedals that are 9v will run on anything from 7-15v. As long as they're getting enough amps, they'll be happy. & before you ask which order you should put them in, don't. That's the fun of having pedals & getting the sound that you want. Play about & have fun!
Horizontalste
Thanks for the advice, luckily I haven't bought a power supply yet so I'll do the maths first. I wouldn't dream of opening the 'what order debate', seen it here a million times before:-)
Sibob
Yeah there's no reason why that selection of pedals won't 'work' together, however there are some other bits to consider. With regards to MA rating, add up what your pedals draw, then buy a power supply that gives you at least double that draw......perhaps even more if you want to expand at a later date. The TC tuner is digital, and digital pedals can react strangely in a daisy chain (as opposed to when they're fed isolated power), I've got the TC Polytune mini running in a daisy chain, however I have to run it at the end of the chain (no big deal), as it doesn't like being in front of dirt/high gain pedals, gives off low-level white noise in bypass. If you buy an isolated power supply, not to worry, but these are not often seen on small setups. Si
Horizontalste
Thanks for the info on this (to me) relative minefield. Would I be better dropping the tc tuner in favour of something different? I only really chose it because of its availability and looks. [/quote] I wouldn't say so, unless you have a particular need to have it before your drive pedals at the start of the chain (with a daisy-chain power setup). I swapped to it from a Boss TU2 simply because I needed to save some space on that one board. If you have space, the TU-2 or TU-3 are great tuners, although aren't True Bypass if that bothers you (it shouldn't) Si
Horizontalste
Cheers Si I don't mind where on the board it go's to be honest. Just want to keep things as simple and compact as I can really. I'm excited about building it just trying to research as much as I can before I part with cash.
