kristinaelias Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Any ideas for upgrades for Clarence, my Squier'50s CV P bass? So not the split pickup, which seems to be rather drastically reducing my options along with the closure of Wizard, which I'm sure I saw recommended on here somewhere. Quote

EBS_freak Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Bare Knuckle would probably get my vote for UK manufacturers too. Quote
EmmettC Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Another vote for Bareknuckle, though I've only used their guitar pickups. Seymour Duncan do a vintage p pickup that should fit. Quote
Lozz196 Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Depends on sound wanted, Seymour Duncan do a Quarter Pounder version of these which has the typical boosted lows & highs of the QP range. Makes the bass sound a lot more modern. Quote
TheGreek Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 (edited) A friend of mine had a custom set made by a fella from Middx training in Poland as a luthier...he'll basically build them to any spec you want at a pretty reasonable price....I can send you the luthier's details if you PM me.. kristinaelias Posted March 20, 2014 Author Posted March 20, 2014 Thanks for all your advice. I have been very busy checking out youtube & googling away. Special thanks to KiOgon who very sensibly suggested upgrading the electrics first to get the most out of the OE pickup before writing it off. I've decided to take this advice and do a staged upgrade process to see how each component effects things. Planning on the changing the wiring to push back waxed cotton first, then upgrading the cap to a USA Sprague Vitamin Q, then the jack, & then the pots to CTS, before doing the pup. I'm leaning towards the Lindy Fralin 51, which ain't cheap so I'm going to tinker with other bits first & establish that the Fralin is absolutely necessary before shelling out. The other pup that impressed me was made by David Allen. Anybody have any experience of his pups? Quote
