Roger2611
Hi guys, I recently picked up a Hiwatt Hi-Gain 100 for a price it would have been rude to refuse, I always wanted another valve head for bass and thought this would do the job....it is not quite there though, I am struggling to get enough volume from it before it start distorting too much, I assume that is because it is the hi-gain version....could I re-valve the head to lower the gain channels and get more headroom? And could I change anything to make it a little more bassy? Cheers Rog
geoffbyrne
To get more headroom, you could replace the 12AX7s with 5751s (approx 70% gain), 12AV7 (approx 40% gain) and the 12AU7 (approx 20% gain). I'm not sure you'd need to change all of them - maybe just the V1, but others who know much more than I will be along soon..... G.
Roger2611
Anyone else with any ideas?
Sean
Phone Watford Vales and ask for Derek. He knows stuff. He'll put you right. He does it for a living and people who play valve amps for a living take advice from him. He's not God (Billy Sheehan is) but he'll give you some very good pointers. badboy1984
Am I right to think that by switching out the higher gain valve to a lower gain valve the volume will drop but can turn up higher without getting dirty too quickly?
