bubinga5
I've seen a few vids from a guy called Valter Kabas. . i really liked his slap playing on this classic. its one of the coolest most musical slap parts, that just work so well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOJzRxlBRhI but this doesn't work so well. I like to think i know what sounds good, and for me this slap bass guitar doesn't on this record. it seems a classic example of slap bass used where it shouldn't be. i just get the impression he's not thinking about the record/music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLmnKiuSy-Y i don't want to knock anyones playing. although the skills are there, you can't apply those slap skills to everything. skills aren't the basis for taste i reckon. i guess i like simple musical slap. [/quote] Cool playing and musical slap. Too much technique in the second one for me. Too far removed from what is needed and not what can be rammed in but the first vid is a great example of playing something cool that works without being too flashy! P.s. Fixed so people can actually watch them and not have to faff with the links! Edited March 20, 2014 by skej21

In future, where the link says 'https://' at the start, just delete the 's' out to make 'http://' and it should work :-)

lowdown
The guy is more on it in the first video, nice rich tone as well. I loves LJ's slapping on this Jackson tune, really heavy groove. http://youtube.com/watch?v=xjZ1CzcK1GI Edited March 21, 2014 by icastle Link fixed
JTUK
The guy really has his slap style down but I'd leave both out of the final mix. Not sure what he hoped to achieve with that, tbh..apart from a show reel. MM....?? who needs a track to make it happen...

Sammers
He's just jamming, I don't think it should be seen as anything more than that really. It's nice to see someone try something different, regardless whether it adds anything to the original track. You should check his 'get lucky' vid, he completely nails it (imo) But yeah, the 90 degree thumb freaks me out too haha
maldy
I like it. Is it better than the original? Probably not, as the original bass line is quite iconic. However, I quite like the fact that he has done something completely different. I've heard the original so many times that it was refreshing hear something different. But like everyone else, his thumb scares me!

thisnameistaken
He can clearly play and in the second video it's interesting that he's tried something completely different to the famous bass line on that song, he deserves some credit for doing that, but I thought his lines on both videos were a little too busy and I didn't like his bass sound in the second video. It's good that he's being creative though, and he's trying a really difficult trick replacing the bass parts on famous songs like that, so I approve. It's a nice change from the millions of Youtube videos of people playing exactly what's on the record along to the record. Can't think of anything more pointless.
