ianwild16
Huge +1 for "Oh Brother..."
Just been out on me dinner hour and bought this from the local 2nd hand CD shop..... (In Rochdale, 'Rocks Off'...good shop for a rummage on a rainy dinner time). A credit crunching Three Pounds Fifty!...it had better be good! I did see a tune off it on TOTP2 on Dave a few months back....the tune with G Clooney, and thought it was good then. Not the sort of stuff I'd normally like, but I looked up the compilation on Wikipedia before I went, and saw it was produced by T Bone Burnett... Who I saw on Jools Holland with R Plant & A Klauss..... And i liked that 'real gone' tune. Went looking for their CD, but they didn't have it.... That was filmed in Walton's on South George St. in Dublin, about the only place you can get SX basses in Europe.

Stingray5
Ah, this is a subject after my own heart. I second many of the previously mentioned titles especially Lord Of The Rings and Blade Runner. Here are a few more personal faves to recommend (in no particular order): Ennio Morricone - Once Upon A Time In America Ennio Morricone - The Mission Chinatown - Jerry Goldsmith Band Of Brothers - Michael Kamen (though a series and not a movie soundtrack as such but brilliant composition by the late Michael Kamen). Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence - Ryuichi Sakamoto The Falcon And The Snowman - Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays (s/t does include hit single 'This Is Not America', Pat Metheny with David Bowie) To Live And Die In L.A. - Wang Chung Dune - Toto & Marty Paich On Golden Pond - Dave Grusin The Thomas Crown Affair (orig.) - Michel Legrand Bullitt - Lalo Schifrin
Bilbo
'On Golden Pond' - I'd forgotten about that one. Good call! Dave Grusin, wasn't it? 'Falcon and The Snowman' is ok because the hit single was written for the film.

I'll raise you with 'Dirty Harry' Lalo Schifrin. Loads of good tracks, & some nice fuzzy bass. Seem to recall Chuck Rainey was bass player on the soundtrack(?) Born 2B Mild
Oh, and I just remembered two other soundtracks that I was moved enough to buy in recent times... Bend It Like Beckham ...good mix of bollywood & pop & River Queen (Karl Jenkins) ...which I've just bought the DVD of and will watch for the first time tomorrow night. It will be weird, as I am so familliar with the soundtrack, which I've listened to for the past 12 months
bnt
'Apollo' soundtrack by Eno and Bladerunner...if only for Demis Russos's vocal.
I have the Apollo soundtrack - wonderful stuff. I have s soft spot for the Eno & U2 Passengers, album, Original Soundtracks. It was supposed to be music for imaginary films, but one was actually used in a soundtrack, coincidentally, the film I mentioned earlier: Ghost In The Shell. Odd fact about Demis Roussos: he's a bassist too, and played in his first band Aphrodite's Child.
