petetapner1
Hi guys, I have recently purchased a lighter gauge string set for my Hofner violin bass. Having fitted them, I find that a little more relief is needed. Just wanted some advice re the truss rod adjustment. Is it the usual "tighty righty / loosey lefty" arrangement? Thanks a lot, Pete. Happy Jack
Yes, it works exactly the same as any other bass. If it's a pukka German-made hollow-body (i.e. not a CT or an Icon or similar) then it's worth bearing in mind that it's nowhere near as fragile as it feels - those basses are actually very well-constructed and strong. I'd recommend adjusting the truss-rod only in 1/8th turns though. The neck on a shortscale tends to move much less than on a longscale. I haven't adjusted the trussrod on my '64 in years. Kevin L
So tightening the truss Rod would put more relief (or underbow) on the neck? I have the Hofner Contemporary Violin Bass made in China.

No, tightening the truss rod gives you less relief, slackening it off gives you more relief, see diagram below.
