Best place to start off with Gospel Music

I;ve always loved the Gospel 'sound', chord progressions and the grooves that you can kick out. I'm not christian or anything myself but I love the music they create. I'm just stuck on where to start looking for some good stuff e.g. albums, tracks. I know the players e.g. Sharay Reed, Thaddieus and so on. its just getting my hands on some of the recordings and hear how the bass is playing, work some stuff out.

Any ideas ?

I've worked with a few Gospel choirs and had much the same problem trying to find the right things to listen to. A lot of the stuff is horrendously cheesy but there's some great playing in there somewhere... Here are some things that I found useful:
