Can wooden stages rob your tone?

A lot depends on the construction. I've played on large suspended stages & as long as there's no "edge panelling" the sound seems to be fine. It's funny someone's brought this up, as I was on a fully enclosed two-tier wooden stage on Saturday for a big charity bash. Because there was no contact between the rig and the ground, the top end frequencies were highly pronounced. I much prefer my bottom 15 cab to be on the the floor. That's where you get the best sound with the best bass reflex (especially if your bass ports are in the rear as mine are!)

Rich.

Yes, i too prefer the cab on the ground. I still dont want to put my cab on a chair as i dont really want it too close to my head and with the 1212L its not a great sound close up.
A few stages recently have given me the best sound i have ever had. Very solid, dry but not boomy.
I got the platfoam for the majority of Social clubs where the stages are awful. Whilst the on stage sound is great there is no low end off stage and in the room.
In these situations i cant turn the low end up as it gets way too loud on stage. hopefully the platfoam will help.
