Ghost Rider
Not sure if anyone else knows so here we go. Sold a bass on eBay, winning bid was £250 - ebay final value fee is 10% which I was expecting. I checked my seller account & noticed £2.50 was taken for "Final value fee on postage". The postage was £25 so I can only assume its another 10% for the greedy people running the company & that's me being polite! Here is their words in black & white " A final value fee is charged when an item is sold. The final value fee of £27.48 for this item is based on the shipping cost and sale price of £250.00." Anyone else noticed this ??? Cheers Edited April 3, 2014 by Ghost Rider

3below
After that slice just note the precentage paypal takes on the transaction as well. Nice work if you can get it!
Ghost Rider
Yeah, it is total robbery. Maybe this post should be pinned or advertised somewhere on the site so everyone has a chance to see it ???
Prime_BASS
The extra postage charge has been on a while, and since it has I've sold nothing on eBay. I think it is to combat the vast amount if sellers from China selling 99p items and the postage charge making up the total value for what's being sold.
It's all about wanting to get more people to switch to free postage, if you offer free P&P, and a paid for priority postage option you will find one the "best match" view your listings will be a lot higher up. TBH I'm not sure ebay is as interested in me and you as it is the companies selling via it.
tonyquipment
Yeah I list everything with free postage No point in putting postage on there
Prime_BASS
It's all a load of bull crap anyway. The last time I sold any on eBay some how my total charge was 90 quid, so I contested it to buggary till the pint they gave up and I only had to pay the listing fees. karlfer
They put it on middle of last year. Some folk were trying to get round fees with the bass (for example) £100 and postage £400. So now, on PAINPal it's 10% of sale, 10% of postage and 3.4% of that total. £250 +£25 postage. £27.50 + £9.35 = £36.85. ie almost 15% of your sale price. Ouch. When more people twig, sale prices will go up further and buyers will foot the bill.

Cheers
I noticed this the other day as well after I sold some Western books on Ebay, bloody highwaymen, they should wear masks and carry flintlocks pistols ! Totally wrong in regards to postage IMHO, I'm fine with them charging a fee for selling an item on their site but postage is nothing to do with them, I don't see anyone from Ebay coming to my house to collect and then deliver the stuff I sell. Oopsdabassist
Just another reason why I never frequent the site and have no plans to in the future!
uncle psychosis
I actually think its quite strange how many people only bother to see what the fees are going to be *after* they sell something. There's even a calculator on the eBay site now, there is no reason not to know beforehand what its going to cost you. By all means if you don't like the fees don't use them, but using their service and *then* complaining about the price is a bit daft IMO. KingBollock
When I first saw this it angered me somewhat, however it does actually make sense, in that it prevents all those that try to con Ebay by swapping the postage and article prices around to skip the fees. That can't work now, so I can't really blame them.
Musicman20
I barely use eBay...I only use it to sell clothes/shoes I know are going to get a decent amount.
KevB
Probably start seeing a lot of 'buyer collects, cash on collection' arrangements being made. I've tried to do all my recent eBay sales that way but I don't buy/sell much any more in general.
Count Bassy
While I think that E-bay fees are way to high I do sympathise with them on this. People use to take the piss- there used to be (and still is it seems) a place 'in Portsmouth' that would sell a bit of stage lighting for say £70, with £400 P & P.
KingBollock
I hope Amazon don't cotton on to this! I often buy books for £2.81, and sometimes DVDs for £1.27, where all but 1p is postage.
Protium
I had a row with them over this, their argument was that it "combats sellers who charge excessive postage". My argument was that it doesn't achieve that since you can still charge whatever postage you like, and that it just costs honest sellers even more on fees. I told them straight that I believed that it was because they couldn't reasonably justify another increase on final value fees and this was the easiest way to claw more money from sellers. After that I had no response, so I removed all my bank and paypal details whilst neglecting to pay a months worth of fees.

Diablo
If you sold your gear through a general or specialist auction house you pay at least 15% on the hammer price - about par for the course I'd suggest. You have to balance the extra costs vs. the potential extra market visibility (therefore higher hammer price) and decide if it is worth fleabay taking a cut. ubit
I seen a pair of jeans once that had reached six quid, the guy was asking for twenty five quid postage! I sent him a sh*tty message! Good luck with complaining to eBay on their charges, they will fart in your general direction!

Cheers, Rich
+1 on that The main thing that irks me about ebay is the fixed, published finishing time and the last minute snipe bidding. Would like to see an option to extend the auction finish time in the event of a last minute bid. I suppose there'd have to be an increasing minimum bid increment to stop it dragging out too much.
