I've mentioned it so thought I'd better post a few photos of my recently acquired lefty Mike Lull PJ4 😊

@Graham A  How's the Bruce Thomas now you've had it a while?

Just as update for @rasher80 & anyone else who maybe interested. Really loving my Bruce Thomas Profile, i've been alternating it with my Mike Lull PJ4 & it's really holding it's own against the Mike Lull. My band mates really love how punchy it is, & when my wife first heard it at a gig she commented how good it sounded. I'm loving both of them, so i'm now taking them out to gigs, & my Fender P is consigned in it's case under a bed.

I've added some links to Youtube video's so you can hear how it sounds in a band mix ( best heard through headphones ). The last video is a compilation from our gig on Saturday where i playing the Mike Lull so you can compare. I'm playing through a Genzler Magellan 800 head & Barefaced Supertwin.

That's a good word for it: punchy.  Also the word I would use to describe Thomas' sound on the Costello songs.  Also, it's the loudest pickup out of all my instruments.

I sold my Jack Casady, posted it last night. Probably lost £200-£250 in money as well as a beautiful bass. But, the chap who bought it claims to have met Mr Casady himself a few times and seems incredibly excited about receiving the bass, so at least I know it's going to be cherished. I'll miss it, but realistically I wasn't using it enough to justify keeping it, and I can now buy a decent new washing machine with the money.... It sucks being sensible.

That reminds me of something one of my 20 year old summer interns said to me.  After a few weeks on the job she turned to me and said, "Adulting is really boring, isn't it?"

I neglected my Aerodyne for too long so I got it out the case, tweaked the setup and bought a decent strap to get it back on the gigging rota. I forgot how good this thing sounds.

The are really great for hard rock.  It must be the pickups.  They distort really nicely with an overdrive pedal too.

My Harley Benton fretless jazz is a lovely bass. Recently I acquired what I guess used to be a kit bass that needed some work and thought rather than buying new parts for that, why don't I upgrade my Harley Benton and then lend the old HB parts to the kit bass?  It seemed sound logic to me. Even though I always maintain there was nothing at all wrong with the HB stock, here's what I've done...

Monty's wax on the fretboard because I use round wounds with this bass;

KioGon loom so I could use the HB electronics in a different bass;

New Hosco bell plate;

Cream coloured pickup cover... I couldn't quite fit the bridge one without fettling the body and have grown to like it just like this;

Gotoh high mass bridge.

Knobs swapped around because I just wanted to.

Worth a further upgrade would be the nut and the tuners but honestly I'm not fussy about those. The bass is perfectly good as is. It just looks a bit better now.

That particular bass? NO. See my review on the Thomann site. No QC at all and no QC sticker on the back that the newer made basses have. I sent it back yesterday. Frets sticking out from the fretboard here and there, backplate loose since the brackets that hold the screws were loose. one of the potentiometers loose etc. The sound is great, many options to tweak the sound with just one pup.

Thomann are sending me a replacement bass.
