pfretrock
"The folk singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell is being treated in intensive care in hospital in Los Angeles. The website jonimitchell.com, which describes itself as the artist’s official site, said: “Joni was found unconscious in her home this afternoon. She regained consciousness on the ambulance ride to an LA area hospital." “She is currently in intensive care undergoing tests and is awake and in good spirits. More updates to come as we hear them. Light a candle and sing a song, let’s all send good wishes her way.” http://www.theguardi...EMCNEWEML6619I2

fleabag
Mitchell is about as close to a Godess as they get ( IMO ) Having had 4 of her albums for 30 years , in one format or another , Court & Spark, Hissing, Hejira, Miles Of Aisles, i thinks she's a one off, and out there. The track Rainy Night House on the live album is even better ( IMO ) than the studio track And those lyrics.. evocative and how they conjur up a story It was a rainy night We took a taxi to your mother's home She went to Florida and left you With your father's gun alone Upon her small white bed I fell into a dream You sat up all the night and watched me To see who in the world I might be Edited December 11, 2015 by fleabag

oldbass
yes yes yes all of that and where to start on the lyrics !
and again thumping great YES to it all.....don't think I can think of another female writer who can put chords together the way she does....fabulous...mother of all solo female story tellers ever. Not so keenthough on the heavy smoking thing she has going.. oh well that's genius for ya. Edited December 10, 2015 by ians

Loosen any tight corsets before settling down with dimmed lights and eyes closed. You have been warned. (Disclaimer: this is not the only JM track that has this feature. If you find the experience pleasant, I would encourage further investigation...) Edited December 11, 2015 by Dad3353

julesb
My favourite artist. I came across her whilst looking for Jaco which seems a long-long time ago now. I bought a vinyl copy of Don Juan's reckless daughter from a junk shop which started the most rewarding musical journey. Jaco gets all the headlines but Max Bennett is a wonderful player. Check him out on fury sings the blues off Hejira for a masterclass in bass. The brilliant john guerin on drums plays beautifully throughout that album as well. In fact they're all amazing players! IMO, Larry klein butchered, and I really mean butchered so much of this stuff, which you can witness on youtube, in the tour which came to wembley in the early eighties.
I wonder if that was the reason for them getting divorced? Not much to dislike from Joni really. I particularly liked the stuff with Vince Mendoza. His arranging was terrific. Interesting that Larry Klein Co-Produced that 'Both Sides Now Album'. A master class in arranging. http://youtu.be/l18Nc_iOmyI

Of course, but just watch the concert video with him and see what I mean. Joni: Larry, if you continue with that awful bass tone we're done. Larry; What's wrong with a ridiculous amount of chorus and/or reverb and a really thin weedy tone? Joni: Right! That's it! Larry: Can I keep producing you? Joni: Yes, but if you bring your bass... Reminds me of when I saw Frank Sinatra at The Royal Albert Hall in 1984.. The voice was long gone, but the charisma, the songs and the legend was all there!
