I like p basses but I also like MM style humbuckers and Sandberg quality. What's the best? only one way to find out....fight!

Or get a vm4!

Nicest neck I've had on a p style bass. Usual Sandberg quality. Very versatile sound. Service from Mark at bass direct was excellent.
And the colour scheme? well good enough for Jamerson and sir Horace good enough for me.

Now I want a 5er!

That's bloody lovely. It's not helping my VM4 GAS at all though...

Cheers guys. it sounds belting as well, im really pleased with it. 'Bergs have the best necks and bridges ive come across. old school vibe with a range of tones from traditional passive to modern active. A real funk machine. That 5er looks nice though!

The p works as a thumping p on its own. The mm is more like a power j on its own and a blend of both is my fave with a bit of bass boost. Really cuts through.
This youtube of the 5 string gives a really good review

I have used P+MM since about 1998 ;) and its a killer combo.

The MM is not in the sweet spot though so itbdoes not get the MM tone spot on.... ALONE... Mix in the P and its bang on the growl and thump you expect, more P adds more thump.

Sandbergs passive mode (they have a glok made pre) in all truth sounds NO different than flat EQ so if you get stuck with a dud 9v mid gig you don't really loose anything by going passive.

Also the necks ooohhh the necks.. Its a weird combo of late 60s shallow P and 70s J on width (my best description) but to me the neck feels like a P neck (probably the spacing making me think jazz).

To anyone curious I'd really say find a dealer nearby and have a go (I went through guitarguitar).... I was swung the first time I played one... And the order went in a few months later for my 5 ;)

I only wish id asked for the vibration treatment with no aging (i just got standard gloss tobacco burst no relic), I know some people just claim snake oil but the vibrations kinda make sense to me....years worth of play time built into a fresh bass... Yes please.
