Recovering a cab

Has anyone done this, and is it difficult to do, and isd it expensive? A cab i am interested in as a big tear at the back. Apparently it was taken out of the back of a car, and the catch of the boot lid caught the vinyl, so it is a long tear job? It would look awful trying to repair it.

Depends how big the cab is, really.
I've covered a Bill Fitzmaurice Jack 12 in vinyl and it's not difficult if you use the right adhesive and so on.

The second cab build was painted with black TuffCab using a textured roller and I'd recommend this over vinyl any day.
If it gets scuffed you can just touch it up again (fnarr).

A bigger cab will be slightly more problematic, but there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to do it, there are no particularly special skills involved. If you plan it well and progress in logical stages you should be fine. I haven't looked, but I'm sure there are countless vids on YouTube on how to do this.

I did watch a youtube vid, and it looked fairly easy. BUt i have fallen into the trap of easy looking projects, and realised that some jobs are more skillfull than they look.. I must say, the cab you made looks a top job. Do you still use it, and was/is it as good a sounding cab as you had hoped for?

Thank you... yes, I still use it (along with a second J12) and yes, they both sound as good as I had hoped for.
I'm using a Schroeder 1212L as well, mostly because it's easier to carry - sheer laziness, really.

If the vinyl is hanging off but looks like it could be stuck back down then you might be able to rework the adhesive using gentle heat (like a hairdryer) - I saw a video tour of the Marshall factory (it's somewhere on YouTube) and the glue they use there is heat activated and the guy in charge mentioned the hairdryer trick.

It's not that difficult, Tolex or vinyl is slightly harder than carpet but the techniques are the same. Use Evostik spray adhesive and get yourself a good staple gun and plenty of staples and work in a well ventilated space or it'll be the eighties all over again!

I watched a guy in Marshall fully cover a new Lemmy Sig. 4 x 12" in around 5 minutes; it was phenomenal to watch. I think that's the matching 4 x 15s in the background.
