EmmettC
Well I finally got my hands on a set of SD New Yorker pickups, and I fitted them this afternoon. They were replacing a set of EMGs, and I wanted to wire them up to take advantage of all the options they offer without drilling any new holes, so I ditched the EMG preamp too. They advise wiring these in Parallel, but I wanted to use series too, so I wired them up volume/volume/tone with 3 push pull pots. With all the switches in its running the pickups in parallel, the volume switches up put them in series, and when they're in series the tone knob pulled up coil taps both pickups. I've only tried it through my practise amp, but I had a short recording on my looper of the EMGs (good planning for a change) and I'm definitely happier with the Seymour Duncan's. I might add a preamp at some point, but I'll wait and see how it sounds passive for a while before doing anything.
Acebassmusic
Nice job! I've just fitted a set into my W&T along with a Pope pre and 3 way mini switches that allow each pickup to be individually series / single coil / parallel ........holy mother of tone monsters! With the EQ flat or passive the pickups have changed the sound from the previous Kent Armstrongs warm and rounded to a clear hi-fi and you can "hear all my [s]mistakes [/s]...er....... nuances". Me likey Edited April 13, 2014 by Acebassmusic
EmmettC
I would like to put in a pre and switches, but I don't want to make any irreversible changes. I'm really happy with it now, and I'm thinking about an outboard preamp that I can use with my fender Jazz too. I'm looking forward to gigging it soon, I've had this bass for so long and never been happy with the sound.
mart3442
Any string to string volume issues with the strings becoming more out of line with the pole pieces?
