Geek99
When The Joshua Tree came out in 1987 I was working in the US and I bought a copy. I played it all summer. Right now I'm in Orlando, Florida and I was driving down the interstate road today in a big SUV with station WMMO on the radio and they played a few tracks from the Tree. I turned up the radio to hear that lovely Precision Bass tone. It just made total sense. Good nostalgia moment too.
gary mac
Will have to dig out my copy, haven't played it for a long time. Enjoy your trip.
Colonel36
Now that I've moved your Jazz on Geek, it's a P for me next. Have a good time
discreet
I'm always up for P-Bass love! But the naysayers won't like it!
Telebass
Another +1 for Precision tone!
darren
You only have to look at the gear porn section to estimate the amount of precision love around. The precision thread has over 1200 replies and over 100,000 views. The jazz bass thread, for comparison, has generated nowhere near that level of interest. allighatt0r
Jazzes are clearly for the more intelligent, discerning type of individual.

Paul S
I love all my basses but nothing quite does it for me like that woody old P bass. Edited April 16, 2014 by Paul S

neepheid
I'm happy that the OP was delighted with the music coming out of the radio and the bass tone contained within. And it seemed to be a self contained, non-projecting personal opinion too. Why some knuckleheads can't resist turning it into a P vs. J thing then a P vs. everything else thing is beyond me
EmmettC
I love my P, and my J and my Stingray. Oh and my G&L. Mmmmm, bit of a Leo theme going on. Shouldn't we be celebrating our similarities, not fighting over our small differences, now anything not Fender designed is absolute rubbish, no exceptions. Even the ones I haven't tried, they're obviously terrible.

chrismuzz
I used to hate P basses with a passion, until I heard one used properly. New strings and a bit of overdrive makes for a lovely result
Lozz196
The trusty Precision, finest bass there is, imo of course.

"Poor" Mr Clayton gets knocked a lot but his tone is spot on on this album Marooned here by a medical emergency, sadly. Going home soon for work reasons but will have to return to collect partner
jimbobothy
I was always a die hard jazz bass fan and wasn't really up for P basses at all. I now have one and no jazzes, times change I guess!

It's wonderful how a piece of music can transport us back to another place and time. Also wonderful how music can provide the soundtrack to a personal experience. Let's celebrate that! :-)
lojo
I'll not knock the fact that the P bass is the standard and the best sounding bass Or that the Jazz whilst different is also an amazing must have instrument But "U2" , really ? seriously though it's nice when music gets you as described by the Op
