Kirky
Anyone else seeing Mike Watt with his Missingmen on their current tour? I'm off to the Brudenell in Leeds tonight. Thoroughly looking forward to it.
wingnutkj
Saw him last night in Glasgow - it was excellent! He's such an inspiring player and all-round great guy.
bartelby
I really wanted to go but there were too many gigs that week. I saw them a few years back at the Supersonic Fest. I love Mike's playing.
thisnameistaken
Forgot about it until I saw some old friends on Facebook talking about it tonight, otherwise I would've gone along to the Brudenell too.
Mr H
Arse. First I've heard. Missed Manchester show. Arse.
GarethFlatlands
A friend mentioned it a while ago and I completely forgot about it... until Monday where he said he'd bought me a ticket and forgot to mention it! So tomorrow after work, we're hitting the pub for food and then watching him after that. Really looking forward to it, I'm not that familiar with his material but I like what I've heard and I'll let you all know how he was. Kirky
It was very good indeed. They're at the end of an intense tour so the bands are on top form. Well worth making the effort to go to the Harley in Sheffield for those who didn't make it yet.
GarethFlatlands
He was very good, I didn't know a huge amount of his back catalogue which probably helped as he essentially just played 1 45 minute song and then an encore which might have annoyed people hoping for a 'best of' set. Both he and his band were indeed on top form. I was blown away by what a great, non-flashy player he is. Any suggestions on where to start with listening to his recorded output? wingnutkj
"Double Nickels on the Dime" by the Minutemen is probably the best place to start, and for his solo stuff, there's "Ball-Hog or Tugboat?" which features EVERYONE from '80s/90's American alternative music*, and "Tales From The Engine Room" which is his first "opera", sort of about his dad's navy days and sort of about the story of the Minutemen. *Seriously - everyone. Kirky
I've always really liked the firehose album "fromohio" as well. Not sure whether it's still available anywhere.
Mr H
Agree with the last two posts. Ball-Hog Or Tugboat? has cost me a fortune in Nels Cline music since it came out, too. Thank you, Mr Watt.
