discreet
This is what I went with in the end. Not even twin humbuckers! May drop in some twin-coil J pups at some point. Having fun with it, though. Thanks very much for all the suggestions. Rumple
Very nice. A small aesthetic change if it were mine would be to change those knobs to the plastic old fashioned Fender type.

But there is a lot of tonal variation available passive and it sounds great, so I'll play it as-is for a little while longer before making a decision about that, or whether or not to change the pickups. Trouble is, now that I'm suddenly into fives... there's a whole other world of 5-GAS out there that never bothered me before... a[size=4]lready been looking at the Dingwall Super-J 5 in vintage white with black pg and maple board... ...oh dear. thodrik
In terms of obscenely high output pickups, I haven't tried anything that rivals the Benedetti pickups on the Vigier Excess. In fact I say that they are probably just a bit extreme. I do also like the MM pick ups on the Sandberg models but haven't tried the double MM models. Are they the same size as the USA Jazz V? Was it worth it in the end?
