BigRedX
This is interesting. I'd never noticed a difference between Adblock ON or Adblock OFF, and therefore assumed the ads were downloaded (and were counted) but just discarded. If they're not downloaded, does BC still get revenue for page clicks, or must the individual ad be seen to go to a computer? On my Android tablet, I always get annoying ads for dating services, even though I've never done a search even vaguely in that direction. I love drinking, smoking, porn and violence though, but never seem to get an ad for any of those.
Most ad blockers work by stopping the computer from actually sending the request to the ad servers, and therefore the ads never even get requested let alone served. The dating ads must be the default ones, since I saw them too during my stint working on someone else's computer despite the fact that I had cleared all cookies, browsing history and other stored info from the browser before starting and only used the computer to view sites I needed for my work (mostly vet practices and image libraries), my email via it's web browser interface and on a few occasions Basschat. BassTractor
Thanks. So if I understand correctly, the browser requests a page and downloads it, after which the browser interprets the page's code, and requests the ads that are mentioned. The links to the ads contain a portion that lets the adserver know what site or page this is from so the adserver knows which site to pay. That roughly right? So then BC gets no ad revenue at all when Adblock is on? That, in case, is logical and to be expected, but not good. I'm thinking of small but steady and monthly donations right now rather than a larger one once in a while.
Bilbo
I hereby designate this to be the most boring thread of 2014. So far.

UglyDog
I've got ads for gout relief and dog sledding in Greenland, neither of which I've ever browsed for, nor can I see a connection to potentially associated searches.
You're absolutely right. The ads bear no resemblance to anything ever browsed or that I would be remotely interested in. Honest love.
