eddiehoffmann Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Just saw it too. Fender really did a great job with these new Starcaster and Coronado basses. I'm more and more in love with my Coronado everyday. Anyone knows what pedal(s) he uses? Quote
madshadows Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Royal Blood just posted a link to the performance on FB https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHBJpCjq50E John Quote

ubit Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I cancelled my Sky subscription and this is the only thing I miss. The ability to record Jools show Quote
ubit Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 [sup]How does he get that sound on the bass? Any one know? My mate says he is going through a bass amp and a guitar amp , but a bass through a guitar amp still sounds like a bass [/sup] Quote
BigRedX Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Looks/sounds like a combination of pitch shifter/harmoniser and playing high up on the neck. Quote

SteveK Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I know nothing of Royal Blood, but having just checked out their Jools Holland appearance on iPlayer... I quite liked 'em! As for... xilddx Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Ummm, clever. But would any of you have given them much thought if you hadn't realised that was only a bassist? Would you have simply thought it was a mediocre song from a four piece band, switched your ears off and finished your New Scientist Sudoku Challenge? Quote

To me they just sounded like a not particularly good band with a guitarist who couldn't do anything except play unison riffs with the bass player. Quote

The song doesn't really matter that much as long as it rocks and has a chord change. Quote
xilddx Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 As for the general slagging off of guitarists on here, why all the sperm fountains over a bassist who sounds like one? Quote
Beer of the Bass Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I think that after the initial "wow, there's only two of 'em" has passed, the sound they make is actually duller and less interesting to the ear than if they'd just added a guitarist! A pitch shifter is tied to precisely doubling the bass an octave up, with none of the harmonic, tonal or pitch variation that makes the sound bigger and more alive when two instruments play together. That's not to say that nobody should like the band or the song, just my feelings on their approach... Quote
