ambient Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 To do a trade or a sale ? I've met people in railway stations, tube stations, coffee shops, Tate modern. Quote
Annoying Twit Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Waiting outside Peterborough station, holding a copy of "Bass Guitar for Dummies" so that I could be recognised. Quote
SolomonHelsing Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Waitrose Car Park on a particularily busy day, hopping between cars because the idiots hadn't put any kind of crossing place anywhere, eventually moved my car to the petrol station to nab the cabs. All topped off with a hung-over mother after her works christmas do, just as I hadn't travelled near to great yarmoth before. Well worth it for my cabs. Ok maybe not that weird but it was a bit surreal doing deals in a petrol station car park... not something i've done since or before then mind you Quote
Cameronj279 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Tried out a bass that another member set up for me in Glasgow Central train station once (when it was pretty busy) that's about as weird as if gets for me sadly Quote
Roland Rock Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I had an odd one where the other person never revealed their real name throughout the correspondence, and our 'halfway' meet was at a truckers' carpark at night in the middle of nowhere. The other party said they didn't have a mobile phone, although they were somehow able to PM me from their car on arrival. The deal went fine, but as I said, odd. Quote
Roland Rock Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I once met a chap (pre-BC) to sell a pedal. We arranged to meet at London Bridge station, and his self-identifying description was 'bald head' After approaching several bald men, I found my chap, who had a Hawaiian shirt and an eye patch :-D Quote

EmmettC Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I met Rosco at Glasgow to buy a Gallien Krueger 2x10 combo, it's a kick-back amp with wheels so it felt like bringing luggage back on to the train to Edinburgh. I sent a long message saying I'm short with a beard wearing a shirt etc, he just said "I'll be the one with a bass amp". Quote

steve-bbb Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 the bass bash - all that bloody noise and slapping!! Quote
PJT Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Not off BC, but once travelled down to a service station near the M25 to pick up a Steinberger L2 (long way, I know, but I didn't want him to change his mind). It was in the original black canvas gig bag and, as we parked next to one another, the bag was passed from boot to boot and cash was exchanged. We then turned around to find 2 police traffic cars behind us who thought that the Geordie was picking up a shotgun!!!!! They were still a bit jumpy when I pulled it out of the bag, for them to see, after I had explained what it was. Quote
PJT Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 And a block of garages, in the middle of Nottingham, from which was produced (from under the rubbish and detritus of years) the most "naturally reliced", but beautiful Ibanez Destroyer bass. I wish it could talk, it has clearly "lived a life" Quote
Bikenbass Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) Car park at Stonehenge last year. (My choice.) Edited April 26, 2014 by Bikenbass Quote

KevB Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Won my US jazz on eBay and the pickup address turned out to be a hairdressers in Northampton. I walked in and one of the crimpers took one look at me and the state of my hair and said 'You'll be here for that guitar then...' Quote
Dave Vader Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I met Marvin in Torrington once, if you've ever been there you'll agree that I have won the thread. Quote
bluesparky Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Starbucks on the M23 to sell a jazz bass and Paddington station concourse to sell an amp rack. I've also sold items on here and coincidentally the person who's contacted me has been a friend of mine. Neither of us realised until i called the number he'd put into a PM to me enquiring about the sale and his named popped up on my phone as it was obviously stored in the contacts. Quote
Lord Sausage Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 (edited) I've only met two. One who I bought a Fender jazz 62 re issue fretless off. Met him in Sutton Coldfield. As we know the whole midlands is a very weird place. I've never seen him again on here. And the legendary Risingson. Who was playing the aftershow party of a tour I'd just completed. Great player, we ended up shitfaced in a casino!.........gambling someone else's money! Edited April 28, 2014 by Lord Sausage Quote
Platypus Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014
Paddington station concourse to sell an amp rack.
Ah yes, I remember that Quote
FinnDave Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Swapped a Jazz for a Precision in the car park of a service station somewhere on the M6, didn't take the bass out of the car until that evening's gig in Swindon, tuned it and played two sets on it. I did take my other Jazz to the gig 'just in case'. Quote
