fretmeister
I'm sure there was a thread on this, but I can't find it. Are there any lightweight 1 unit power amps that the basschat massive can recommend? Don't care if it's mono or stereo as long as it's 1 unit, light weight and about 500W (mono or per side) ta

Happy Jack
Cheap'n'cheerful or high quality but outrageously expensive? Sadly, this http://www.djkit.com/w-audio/w-audio-horizon-800-amplifier.html is now discontinued but still turns up from time to time on eBay. The 1U version came in a variety of outputs, construction was not awe-inspiring and the fan is noisy, but for that price it was bloody good VFM. On t'other hand, http://www.thomann.de/gb/powersoft_digam_m_14_d.htm is scary expensive but By God does it deliver ...
Ghost_Bass
I was on this boat not long ago. I ended buying a KMT DC5. Class-H (not very light), 1000W bridged at 4Ohms, low and deep. I like it a lot. Here's the site: http://www.kmt-sound.de/endframe.htm It's in german though... Here's how it looks on my rack:
bertbass
We use a couple of these for our PA. Very impressed. http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_tamp_d4500.htm

JPJ
Is there no manufacturers out there doing a mono amp with reasonable output rather than having to have a stereo amp in bridge mode?
dincz
Is there no manufacturers out there doing a mono amp with reasonable output rather than having to have a stereo amp in bridge mode?
Very few and they're fairly expensive. The big market for separate power amps is for PA use. In any case, stereo power amps offer a lot of flexibility for bass in terms of number of cabs and cab impedance.

http://www.thomann.d..._tamp_d4500.htm
Those are cracking amps. I used one as my band's main PA amp for four years, before selling it to Monckeyman (of this parish) before Xmas. I only sold it since I'd bought the Powersoft Digam unit that the Thomann is essentially a copy of. That design offers the opportunity to do a bewildering variety of bi-amp solutions and clever-clever pedal board nonsense.
mrtcat
Can you Bi-Amp the Thomann amp to do something like 2 x 500w at 8 Ohm? Edited May 1, 2014 by mrtcat
Dood
I'd like Matrix Amplification to do a 1U rack using their 800W RMS modules. here are two in my GT1600FX and I have to say, it's stonkingly good. It's not D Class but AB using a switch mode power supply that can actually deliver the kinda current us bass players need. It's probably the best light weight power amp I have come across at just 5Kg, but it is a 2u. I'd have put my Powersoft before it, but that was a very long amp that you had to use a deep rack case with, thus kinda negating the point of saving space with a 1u for me. That said, the Powersoft kit is pretty astonishing too.
GUI101
Hi Dood, Matrix do an 800W 1u amp, it's the GT800FX Essentially it's the XT800 from their PA side of the business, was thinking of one myself.

Alec
Just buy a Powersoft K20: 18,000W bridged into 4Ω enough for you... Mind you, at around £6k a go, just think of what this rack cost....
Very true, though it's a stereo 400+400, so you'd need to bridge it to get the 800W. The only issue I have with that is it means you can not use a 4 ohm cabinet with it. The bridge option is 8 Ohms minimum load. I'd much prefer a single monoblock 800W power amp unit for flexibility

bigjohn
I have a nice 600W@8Ohm 1u single channel amp. The Chevin a700v - Rare as the proverbials though. I keep looking for another but I've never found one.
